Review of the 2010 GMC Acadia

2010 Acadia

Introduction
The 2010 GMC Acadia is a large seven- or eight-crossover SUV offered in four trims: base SL, SLE, SLT-1 and SLT-2. The Acadia gets new "Cashmere" leather upholstery on up level models, revised trim levels, standard 20-inch wheels on the top-of-the-line model and a USB jack for the optional Bose stereo for 2010. Also, the six-speed transmission has also been reprogrammed for swift downshifts.

Exterior Design and Special Features
The 2010 GMC Acadia SL trim comes with a decent list of standard equipment, including 18-inch alloy wheels, front and rear air-conditioning, full power accessories, cruise control, OnStar telematics and a six-speaker CD/MP3 stereo system with satellite radio. The SLE comes with fog lamps, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, Bluetooth, a power lift gate, remote ignition, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, partial power front seats, rear parking sensors and a back-up camera with a small rearview-mirror-integrated display. The SLT-1 upgrades with heated mirrors, 19-inch wheels, tri-zone automatic climate control, a variable-assist steering system, rear audio controls and headphone jacks, leather upholstery, heated front seats and a 10-speaker Bose stereo with a USB audio jack. The top end SLT-2 is available with 20-inch chrome wheels, additional power adjustments for the front seats (eight-way driver, four-way passenger), power-folding heated mirrors with driver-side auto-dimming, perforated leather upholstery, driver memory functions and a Towing Preparation package. A rear entertainment system (SL excluded) with a rear-seat DVD player with a flip-down display, a 115-volt power outlet, a surround-sound version of the Bose stereo and -- for the SLE -- rear audio controls and tri-zone automatic climate control is the main optional feature. Additional options are also available.

Engine
The FWD or AWD 2010 GMC Acadia derives power from a 3.6-liter V6 rated at 288 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard, and it has been updated for 2010 with distinctly more responsive downshifts. The FWD equipped Acadia delivers an EPA-rated 17 mpg city/24 mpg highway and 19 mpg combined and AWD one checks in at 16/23/19. When properly equipped, the Acadia's towing capacity is a useful 4,500 pounds. There is a decent 24 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row and the maximum cargo capacity of the Acadia is an enormous 117 cubic feet available with all seats down.

Safety
The 2010 GMC Acadia scored a perfect five stars in NHTSA frontal- and side-impact testing as well as the top "Good" rating in the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety's frontal-offset and side-impact testing. Front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, Antilock disc brakes, and stability control are among the standard safety features.
